It’s almost February! How crazy is that? Don’t you feel like January was just a test for how the year is going to go?

Let’s talk about spiritual trends! In the last few years, spirituality has blown up in a big way. Notice how I said spirituality, not religion. More and more people leaning into spirituality rather than religion. Nothing wrong with that. Everyone has to do what’s right for them.

So let’s go through some trends that have popularized over the last few years and are going to continue to explode in 2019!

spiritual trends to try

Meditation

I love me some meditation! It has been around FOREVER! We’re talking in the B.C era. Religions such as Hinduism, Taoism, and Buddhism all perfected it before we even got our hands on it. Crazy right? Before it was just for the extremely religious. Now? Now everyone is doing it!

Meditation has been linked to so many benefits and I am really not surprised. Taking 5-10 minutes out of your day to practice intentional breathing, focusing on being mindful and clearing your mind can do wonders on your blood pressure, stress and anxiety levels.

Why it’s not a one hit wonder

Some people may not meditate to reach enlightenment or to even bring a little spirituality into their lives. But maybe for them, that’s not the point of it. Some people use meditation to effectively start their day on the right foot. Some people are doing it to help work on some internal issues they have been struggling with. Some people use meditation to bring clarity into their lives. By doing this they are taking the time to focus on the right things in their lives whatever that might be.

For those who are meditating for spiritual purposes, yay! Sometimes we need to connect to something bigger than ourselves. Maybe it is to find enlightenment! Or maybe it is to connect with our angels, spirit guides or the higher power we believe in. Whatever it might be, it is a personal thing.

How to jump on the bandwagon

Just start. Meditation is not going anywhere. If it has survived for thousands of years, I am sure it will survive for thousands more. So you might as well just start. Start with 1 minute several times a day. Then 2 minutes and so on and so on. You can do the music or guided meditation thing if you think that will help. But it is not 100% necessary.

You can try it in the morning, in the afternoon, in the evening, in the bath, just before bed. It really doesn’t matter. This is a personal practice for you. Enjoy it!

Crystal Work

Everyone is jumping on the crystal bandwagon! This is one trend that has blown up in a big way. Why? Because it doesn’t need much. You could buy a few crystals, put them around your house and call it a day. That basic process is going to help jump start your spirituality. I suggest doing a little bit more though to get the full effect. You know, at least cleanse, clear and charge your crystals on the regular.

Crystals are becoming more and more fashionable in jewellery. In fact, many women are looking to have their engagement rings set with something other than a diamond.

Crystals are also being carried around more or set in offices and meditation areas. This is because the energy coming off of them can help to bring abundance, luck, happiness, etc into your life. They also help to balance your chakras, work on balancing your mood and give you energy when you need it. For such a tiny little rock, it holds a lot of power.

Why it’s not a one hit wonder

Ancient Egyptians, Ancient Greeks, and Ancient Romans, are just a few of the people who first believed in the power of crystals. They carried talismans and amulets. So needless to say it’s been around for a while.

As long as crystals are still being found, people are still going to be buying them!

How to jump on the bandwagon

If you are just starting out. then just start with one! Work with it one on one. Learn it’s different properties and appreciate the power it holds. Once you feel comfortable with the one, move on to another crystal. Rinse and repeat.

Moon Rituals/ Intention Setting

More and more people are realizing the effects of the moon and it’s about damn time. Oh, the moon has been here for billions of years, no big deal. So what are people starting to realize now about it? The magic.

The different stages of the moon and her energy can help bring you to accomplish different things in your life. By focusing on the different energy in each moon phase, we can set different intentions that will help make our lives better.

For example, when the moon is in the New Moon Phase, that is the perfect time to set an intention for the month. What do you want to accomplish? What is your goal? What will make your life better?

When we get to the Full Moon phase, we are actually going to release what no longer serves us, or whatever might be blocking us for achieving our intentions or goals.

By the end of the moon cycle, we are meant to give thanks, and it is the end of the intention for the month. We start new with the next new moon with a new intention or can refocus and try again with the same intention. It’s a personal preference.

Why it’s not a one hit wonder

The moon isn’t going anywhere any time soon. More and more people are realizing that you have to work side by side with a connection to something ( such as the moon) in order to achieve the important things in life. Why do you need to work so hard, when you could have something that shares half the load with you. Relinquish a little bit of control.

How to jump on the bandwagon

You might feel a little silly at first and that is totally okay. You don’t necessarily have to do this big grand ritual under the moonlight. It could be as simple as journaling during each cycle. It could be charging your crystals under the moonlight in order to up their energy level. It could be writing your intention down on a piece of paper.

Or if you feel called to go dancing under the moonlight then have at er. You do you.

Tarot and Oracle Cards

So remember when astrology was insanely popular? Ok, basically horoscopes were insanely popular. Astrology is popular, but not going to lie it gets a little confusing at times. Now the next big thing is all about the Tarot and Oracle readings. Trying to get some sort of glimpse into the future with a little metaphysical and new age help is a great way to figure out your next step. But as accurate as some readings may be, you still have to put in the work in order to get the life you deserve! It is more of a spiritual guidance, rather than a substitute for hard work.

What is the difference between tarot and oracle? Tarot is a more rigid practice, whereas Oracle is more open. Oracle cards can have just about anything on them- crystals, affirmations, spirit animals, mermaids, fairies, sayings the list goes on and on. Tarot basically has the same cards in each deck with a bit of revamping. But basically, it’s a set with cards with wands, cups, swords, and pentacles.

Why it’s not a one hit wonder

More and more people are looking for more spiritual guidance and this is a great way to achieve that. There are becoming a lot less skeptics, now that people are being more and more credited in this line of work.

How to jump on the bandwagon

There will always be some fake tarot readers out in the world. If that is what you are worried about, then buy your own personal deck and see how you do with your own. Use your intuition to find out which deck you are called to. Fair warning, because I have done this myself. I chose an oracle deck with mermaids because I am obsessed with mermaids. Unfortunately, they don’t work well with me. That is okay because they still sit well in my meditation area. I have another oracle set with animals on it. That deck works a lot better with me.

So which one should you use? Either or both! It doesn’t really matter. Both take time to master, but I will suggest oracle cards if you want more of a free-flowing reading. Just remember practice makes perfect!

Prayers

Okay, this might be a bit of a touchy one, but it is on the rise again. When people think of praying, they automatically connect it to religion and for good reason. Praying is another longtime tradition, and it doesn’t just tie in with just one religion. It doesn’t matter if you are a Hindu, Buddhist, Christian, Pagan or Wiccan prayer can play a big role in your practice.

Sometimes people only pray when the tough times roll in, and that’s fine to start. But now we are seeing that more people are praying to give thanks, to show appreciation or just have a little one on one pow wow with the higher power they believe in.

The other really cool thing is that with all the crap and tragedy that is happening in the world especially to religious communities and places of worship, we are seeing more people from different paths come together and pray together. Because if there is one thing we can all agree on is that there 1 common goal for the world and that is to bring peace. It doesn’t matter what or who you believe in when you can come together to help bring peace that is a pretty powerful thing.

Why it’s not a one hit wonder

It’s a pretty simple thing to do. It doesn’t have to be something you have to shout from the rooftops unless you want to. It can be a personal thing that not even your significant other needs to know about if you don’t want them to. There is a power in number too, but a lot of people just enjoy the quiet time between you and your God.

How to jump on the bandwagon

There is no right or wrong way to do this and it is probably one of the easiest things you can try on your own. Even a quick look up to the sky and saying thank you will help get you started. Don’t over think things or complicate it by making it into a big ritual. Just start out small and you got this!

Well, that is the first 5 trends of the year. Don’t worry, I am working on 5 more for you! What are some trends you are seeing? Let me know! I am curious!

Until next time,

Peace, love and creativity
